20-year-old Gosling becomes clubs second summer signing I know all about the amazing atmosphere at St James ParkNewcastle United have confirmed the signing of the midfielder Dan Gosling on a four-year contract. The 20-year-old becomes the newly promoted clubs second signing of the summer following the arrival of James Perch from Nottingham Forest.Gosling, who has been handed the No15 shirt, was a free agent after leaving Everton. He said: "Its a brilliant move for me. Now that the deal is done I just cant wait to get started."Ive played at St James Park before and know all about the amazing atmosphere. Playing there in a black and white shirt is something Ive thought about already and it will be a great day when I finally get to walk out in front of 50,000 people," he told the clubs official website."Chris Hughton and all of the lads have been great with me and made me feel really welcome since I arrived and hopefully I can repay the faith that theyve shown in me."The Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton, said: "Were delighted to have signed Dan. Hes the right age and the profile that he has is what makes it such an appealing capture for us. Hes young but has Premier League experience and hes someone who can continue to develop his game."We see him as a high-energy player and a player that can play from box-to-box, but hes also a young player with experience, so he wont be fazed by what is ahead of him."Hughton, meanwhile, has not given up hope of the defender Steven Taylor starting the new season despite his shoulder injury. The 24-year-old will miss Saturdays friendly at Norwich City with the problem he picked up at Carlisle United last weekend as the club doctors continue to assess the extent of the problem. However, Hughton is keeping his fingers crossed that Taylor could be available for the first league game of the season, against Manchester United, on August 16. "Hopefully it is not too long out for Steven, but we want to assess it properly first and then clarify the situation," he told the Journal."He will definitely be out of the Norwich game and it could be a few more weeks after that, but we are still assessing it and we are hoping to have more information by the end of the week. Its normal that people will be worried as he has had an injury there before, but we dont want to pre-empt anything by speculating how long he will be out for.Newcastle UnitedTransfer windowMarcus Christenson guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
