Olympic tickets: How successful were you in your application? | Steve Busfield and James Ball
Help us work out how London 2012 tickets were allocated with our simple spreadsheetThe London 2012 ticketing process has come in for much criticism this week as sports fans discovered how many - or how few - Olympic tickets they had won in the ballot.A quarter of a million people have been left ticketless by the process but will be offered an "exclusive window" to buy tickets on a first-come first-served basis. People who received a handful of tickets will only be allowed to try to purchase leftover tickets later. One very brave individual bid 36,000 and has received 11,000 worth of tickets. We would like you to help us work out how the general public has fared in this process. If you would take a few seconds to answer a few simple questions, it will give us a guide to the ticketing picture. We have to accept that unless every single person who applied for tickets fills in this form, it will not be scientific fact. Thanks for filling in the form. Why I failed to get Olympic tickets
I wasnt greedy enough - I only asked for a fewI cannot believe it! It seems I have "won" no Olympic tickets at all. Im so annoyed. I now realise that my "strategy" was too modest, my requests too realistic.I asked for tickets for just a couple of events, carefully choosing those for which there would not be mega-demand, and that I could afford to pay for in full. It turns out, however, that it would have been more sensible to over-request, quite wildly, since people are being given just a fraction of the tickets that they asked for, sometimes just 10%. Damn. Should have gone totally mad. Then Id have got 10% of something really greedy. Olympic spirit, indeed.Olympic ticketsOlympic Games 2012Deborah Orr guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2011 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More [detalii...]

No third chance in this window for unlucky Olympic ticket applicants
15,000 applicants for London 2012 tickets left empty-handed Organisers seek ways of ensuring they do not miss out againThe thousands of people who missed out on London 2012 Olympics tickets again over the weekend will not be allowed to make another application in this sales window, organisers confirmed today.More than 15,000 people who believed they had been successful in buying Games tickets on Friday discovered on Sunday they had missed out after all.Organisers confirmed around 10% of the 150,000 people who had applied for tickets ended up with nothing. Many thousands more sports fans were only successful for part of their application but London 2012 say they have no figures on how many that number is.Even those people who have ended up empty-handed on two occasions now cannot make another application during this window, which closes on 3 July.London 2012 say they are looking at ways of making sure that they do not miss out again when the 1.3 million contingency tickets go on sale next year.A spokeswoman said: "Our aim is to get as many of these people as possible to the Games and we are thinking and working through how we are going to do that."The only tickets available until next year are in football, volleyball and wrestling. The latest issue over tickets was caused by the computer system run by Ticketmaster. Organisers say this was on a first-come, first-served basis but that system was not live - meaning that people were able to submit applications for some tickets even though they had already sold out.Olympic ticketsOlympic Games 2012 guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2011 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More [detalii...]

London 2012: more than 1m Olympic tickets could be resold
On eve of opening of official resale scheme, one website estimates that 1m of the 6.6m tickets could be up for grabsLondon 2012 organisers have warned that a flood of tickets is unlikely when the official resale scheme opens on Friday.A ticket resale website, Viagogo, has estimated that 1m of the 6.6m tickets available to the public could be recycled through the resale platform operated by organisers, but others believe the numbers will be far lower.Anyone who has bought a ticket for the Games that they no longer want or can no longer use will be able to submit them for resale through the website of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog). If a buyer can be found, the ticketholder will be reimbursed for the face value of the ticket. But given the huge demand for tickets, with 22m applications for 3m tickets in the opening round and only football tickets still available until the final batch of 1.2m ticket sales in April, Locog expects most people who cant use their tickets to pass them to friends or family instead. There had been concerns expressed in the House of Lords that the terms and conditions attached to the sale of tickets, which say that the ticketholder must be present, would have restricted the ability to pass them on.But Locogs chief executive, Paul Deighton, has insisted that ticketholders are free to pass on their tickets even if they cant attend personally and that the measure is merely a defence against touting.Viagogo UKs managing director, Edward Parkinson, said that based on its past experience, around 10% to 15% of tickets were resold ahead of an event as plans changed, which would equate to around 1m tickets. But he criticised the fact that the resale programme was only open for a short window."We predict that up to 1m Olympic tickets could be resold, providing a huge opportunity for people to get hold of tickets that might have otherwise gone unused," he said."With people looking to sell spare tickets right up to and during the Games, why place a time frame on when consumers can resell? An ongoing resale service provides more opportunities to get tickets and fewer empty seats."Locog has promised that there will be more opportunities to resell tickets as the Games approach. The final batch of 1.2m tickets across all sports, released once the final seating configurations within venues have been decided, will go on sale in April. On Wednesday, Locog admitted that 10,000 too many tickets had been sold to four synchronised swimming sessions because of a data processing error. It was forced to contact ticketholders to offer them alternatives to other events from the batch of tickets that will go on sale in April.Olympic ticketsOlympic Games 2012Owen Gibson guardian.co.uk © 2012 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies. Only 36% secure Olympics tickets
Nearly two-thirds of applicants were unsuccessful Next sales window opens at 6am on 24 JuneNearly two thirds of the 1.9m people who applied for London 2012 Olympics tickets missed out in the first round of sales.Figures show that a total of 1.2m people ended up with nothing, with only 700,000 - 36% - being successful. Those who missed out will be given the first opportunity to buy those tickets still available when the next sales window opens at 6am on 24 June. Some 3m tickets were bought in the first round, and a further 2.3m will go on sale, though 1.7m of these are for Olympic football matches and 600,000 for other sports. The London 2012 chairman, Sebastian Coe, told reporters: "We recognise that a lot of people who have as yet been unsuccessful in that application are clearly disappointed. Thats why we are absolutely determined to do everything we possibly can to get tickets to those people who missed out in the first application."Our commitment is to get two thirds of that 1.9m people to buy a ticket for the 2012 Games if they want to - and we know they want to be there, they were involved in the application process and are mad sports fans."All applicants will find out by email today whether they have been successful or not. Those told they have been successful will not be able to find out exactly which tickets they have until 24 June when they will be able to do so via their baskets in the online ticket system. The emails to the 1.2m unsuccessful applicants say: "We would like to invite you to take advantage of an exclusive opportunity to purchase some of the remaining tickets, in advance of those customers who were allocated tickets in the initial application phase."From 6am on 24 June until 6pm on 3 July 2011 you will be able to request some of the remaining tickets on the London 2012 ticketing website."Olympic Games 2012 guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2011 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More [detalii...]

2012 resales unavailable until April
Website will relaunch on Tuesday, but only to buy back tickets London 2012 organisers will then sell them on from AprilLondon 2012 organisers will relaunch their Olympic ticket resale site on Tuesday afternoon but the public will not be able to buy the newly available tickets until April. The computer problems that led to the site being suspended 11 days ago have led to organisers changing their plans. Instead of potential buyers being able to get the tickets on a first-come, first-served basis when they become available, London 2012 will now buy back any unwanted tickets over the next two weeks from 3pm on Tuesday and then sell them again from April. Organisers will not confirm how the tickets will be resold until closer to the time. The commercial director of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Chris Townsend, said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of our ticketing resale platform. We made a commitment to our customers to give them a safe, secure and legal way of selling Olympic and Paralympic tickets which they are no longer able to use. We are delivering on that commitment, and will buy any tickets that customers are no longer able to use at face value until 3 February."Every ticket we purchase from the public will be offered back to the public from April. We believe this system - purchasing the tickets back from customers now, and offering them again from April - will result in a better customer experience for everyone."Our main objective has always been to provide a platform for people to resell their tickets in a safe, secure and legal way. This is the right solution, at the right time given we also have test event tickets on sale currently."Olympic ticketsOlympic Games 2012London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog) guardian.co.uk © 2012 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
