Carlos Queirozs ban for disrupting anti-doping test lifted on appeal
Former Portugal manager suspended last August CAS nevertheless deem his behaviour unacceptableCarlos Queiroz, the former Portugal manager, has had his six-month ban for allegedly disrupting an anti-doping testing session before last years World Cup lifted on appeal. The Portuguese Anti-doping Authority handed down the suspension last August after an incident involving three of their doping control officers at the Portugal training camp in May. The Court of Arbitration for Sport today ruled Queiroz, who was also assistant manager at Manchester United, had not "disturbed the sample collection process or the work of the anti-doping officers".But the panel did brand his behaviour "unacceptable".The CAS ruling said: "After their arrival, the anti-doping officers were approached by Mr Queiroz. Following a discussion, the anti-doping officers left to continue the anti-doping control and, as he was walking away Mr Queiroz uttered some very distasteful and sexually descriptive comments regarding the mother of the ADoP president."CAS said no players were directly involved in the incident and there was "no evidence that Mr Queirozs behaviour was intended to disturb the doping control". The ruling added Queiroz "did not dispute the fact that his comments were both inappropriate and offensive".Queiroz was sacked by Portugal two days after a 1-0 defeat to Norway in a Euro 2012 qualifier last September. He announced his intention to appeal against his suspension later that month, meaning he was free to work until the appeal hearing.Portugal guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2011 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More [detalii...]

Olympic shot-put hopefuls banned
Jamie Stevenson and Kieren Kelly banned for two years UK Anti-doping hails a warning to all athletesThe British shot putters Jamie Stevenson and Kieren Kelly have been banned for two years for violating anti-doping rules, UK Athletics confirmed today. The two were charged by UK Anti-doping following their refusal to undertake an out-of-competition test at Loughborough University on 9 January 2010. They admitted the charge and accepted the consequences. Their suspensions run from 8 February 2010 and end at midnight on 7 February 2012.The UKA chief executive Niels de Vos said: "This must serve as a warning to all athletes, both funded and non-funded, of the importance of co-operating with UK Anti-doping at all times without exception. We will continue to work with UK Anti-doping to ensure absolute compliance with our anti-doping commitment that athletics must be and must be seen to be a drug-free sport in the UK."The UK Anti-doping chief executive Andy Parkinson added: "The case involving these two athletes is a stark reminder that all elite sportsmen and women must seriously consider the implications of not providing a sample on request. Others need to learn from the mistake made by these two athletes and realise that one wrong decision in the heat of the moment can have significant consequences on both their career and their reputation."Kelly, 24, and Stevenson, 20, were third and fifth respectively in the British rankings last season and had been considered decent prospects for the London 2012 Olympics.Drugs in sportAthletics guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More [detalii...]
